Event Description

Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto will partner with Scarborough Town Jazz Festival, Toronto Hakka Heritage Alliance and the TO Food Fest in the Scarborough Summerfest from July 8 to 10, 2016. Most of the activities are free of charge. All are welcome.

Opening Variety Show (P.C. Ho Theatre)

Friday, July 8 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

The opening gala will be a variety show featuring drumming, dance performances by various ethnic groups (including First Nations, Bhangra, Jamaican Hakka, Mauritian Hakka), jazz music, singing and many more. Admission is free. Tickets are distributed on a first-come-first-served basis. Please call 416-292-9293.

Hakka Festival (CCC Phase I and P.C. Ho Theatre)

Saturday, July 9 from 10 am to 6 pm

There will be food booths featuring Hakka cuisine, “Journeys of the Hakka” song, music and dance performances, information about the Hakka culture and diaspora, and entertainment. A documentary entitled Bonds of Promised Land … a Chinese Jamaican story will be screened in the P C Ho Theatre. It charts four different waves of Chinese migration to Jamaica from 1854, looking at their impact on the Jamaican landscape and development (tickets purchase required, $10 for adult and $5 child). TO Food Fest (Johnny K H Fong Multi-Purpose Hall and Burrows Hall Community Parkland)

Saturday, July 9 from 12:00 noon to 11:00 pm and Sunday, July 10 from 12:00 noon to 6:00 pm

Established and aspiring chefs can be found at the TO Food Fest, giving the local community a taste of unique and delicious cuisine like cheese stuffed rice balls, Teppanyaki ice cream, hot dogs and poutine, lobster rolls, cannoli, Brazilian brigadeiro, BBQ squid, and many more!

Admission is free. A donation of $2 is welcome to support the Food Fest. For details, please visit There will also be bouncy castle for kids to enjoy.
